Enlistment in the Louisiana State Militia is open to all males over the age of 18 years. Those desiring to join must first complete an Enlistment Application, which will then be voted on by the current membership. Upon acceptance, a new member’s immediate family become "dependent" members of the unit.
Those members who have son’s between the ages of 14 and 16, who desire to participate, may do so as long as the father is present at the event (we operate under the guidelines of the State of Louisiana, Office of State Parks, Black Powder Regulations which state that no one under the age of 14 may "take the field" and no one under the age of 16 may handle or fire a weapon). Those persons between the ages of 14 and 16 are utilized as flag bearers, couriers and messengers.
When the unit was formed in 1998, it was decided to make the hobby as inexpensive as possible for members. We have no uniform standards, as other re-enacting groups do, as we portray a mid- to late-war unit, at a time when clothing and uniforms were scarce and hard to come by. For this reason, members may wear 1860’s period civilian clothing, a mixture of civilian and Confederate clothing, a mixture of Confederate and Federal clothing, a mixture of civilian and Federal clothing,
or a complete Confederate uniform.
Since we portray a Louisiana state militia/home guard unit, you will find no Confederate national flags or army flags in our camp. We fight under the Louisiana Secession flag or the flag of the Republic of Louisiana.
